You might have heard people refer to Hygiene Therapy as a “scale and clean” or “scrape and polish”. At Keys Dental, we recommend Hygiene Therapy every 6 months but from time to time we do suggest more frequent visits if we feel it is needed to ensure optimal dental health. Looking after your dental hygiene is the foundation you need for a lifelong smile, and it can even be something you look forward to. So let’s keep it clean!
During your appointment, your dental hygiene team will start by removing the plaque and calculus deposits that build up over time. Once plaque turns into calculus, it can’t be removed with a toothbrush.
Next, your team will polish your teeth using a gritty toothpaste. Once this is complete, they will floss and then apply a topical fluoride.
Your hygiene team will also discuss and provide pointers for your at home care, so feel free to chat with them about your home dental routines.
